November and December

Dear Families,

I thank you for your patience with me when it comes to the blog (or lack there of...).  I want to honor your children's learning by sharing our moments with you from November and December, and going forward.  I am thankful that I have your children to come to every day, and they are the highlight of my every day.

We have been doing so many amazing things, and I have taken so many pictures.  I would really love to share everything we have been doing.  If you have any questions or just curious about anything we have done, please let me know!

We learned how to login to Mathletics on the the iPads at school.  It is such a great program for students to practice math concepts at home, and to just play games that reinforce some skills.  Your child can access this program from home, and their login information is taped to the inside of their home communication folder.

One of the math games we have learned is called making 10 memory.  It is a twist on the classic memory game, where the students have to find 2 cards that add up to 10.

We were lucky to have Constable Mattice and another officer come in and share with us about the importance of having our own strengths.  They told us about Hawk the police dog, and how important he is in helping them with people who are upset and need some comfort.

We have been doing some different projects with our buddy class.  We got to learn about Zen Tangling and practice drawing different designs with our Grade 3 buddies.

In art and science we have been experimenting with colors.  Students got to create color wheels using only the primary colors.

We had a great time learning how to write a story using a story map and different organizational pages to keep their story flowing.  Students worked so hard, and were so proud of their final product.

We have been practicing using the ones and tens blocks to learn place value, and how to transfer the ones to the tens column when we have enough of them.

Our class continues to help each other to keep our classroom clean and organized.  We don't always remember, and sometimes need reminders, but our community is always supporting each other.

We have been using videos from Cosmic Kids Yoga to guide us through yoga and mindfulness techniques.  Ask your child about what mindfulness means and how we can use it in the classroom.

In gym we got to participate in the Rocks and Rings program.  The students had so much fun, and did so well!

After learning about curling, we went back to class and watched last year's Tournament of Hearts.  The children loved it so much, and were able to understand how the points worked.

More Cosmic Kids....

When we finally finished Charlotte's Web, we watched the movie over 2 afternoons.  We found out that movies don't always follow the storyline of the book, but we still enjoyed it!

PJ and stuffy day was so awesome!  We all loved being so comfortable, and our stuffies got to check out our school!

With our grade 3 buddies we learned how to draw a face using the appropriate proportions of a person's face.  All of our drawings turned out so ish!

The last week before winter break was super busy!  We did so much, and had so much fun!  We did fun math sheets, went Christmas Caroling with the school in the gym, and created our amazing snowmen.  We hope that you love them just as much as we do!  We also finished publishing our stories, and worked on finishing our bug books.  All in all, it was a good end to the year!!

On the last day the class was a mess, but we were all happy.  It was definitely a good time for a break!  I hope you all enjoyed your breaks!
